Safely Operate, Maintain and Sharpen a Chainsaw

Training and assessments conducted by chainsaw guru, Peter Tutt, (Chainsaw specialist and qualified chainsaw technician with over 35 years of chainsaw direct industry technical and training experience) to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively operate and maintain (including sharpening) chainsaws as per:

  • Australian Standard: AS2727-1997 Chainsaws - Guide to safe working practices
  • SafeWork Australia (2016) Guide for Managing Risks in Tree Trimming and Removal Works.
  • Arboriculture Australia Minimum Industry Standards: MIS315 (2020) Chainsaw Operation and Tree Falling

Recognition of Training

Certificate of Competency (COC)
Operate and Maintain a Chainsaw - Level 1 - as per AS2727-1997 Chainsaws - Guide to safe working practices

Course Content

  • Identify assess and manage chainsaw hazards such as kickback
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Perform required maintenance
  • Sharpen and tension chain
  • Correct Start Procedures
  • Correct Cutting techniques
  • House Keeping
  • Practical application and skills development

What We Provide (for participant's use during course):

  • Chainsaw (1 per person)
  • Fuel & Bar Oil
  • Maintenance and sharpening tools and equipment
  • Chainsaw chaps (Cut Resistant) (1 pair per person)
  • Hard hat with earmuffs and visor (1 set per person)
  • 42 page Chainsaw Training Manual (invaluable; yours to keep)
  • Coffee, tea and biscuits on arrival and during breaks

What to Bring

PPE: Participants will need to wear their own gloves, safety boots and hi-vis shirt or vest.

Food and Drink: Participants should bring their own food, drink and other personal requirements for the day (including at least 2 litres of water during warm / hot weather). There are take away food outlets nearby should participants wish to purchase lunch on the day.

Your Own Saw if Applicable: Participants with their own chainsaw and equipment are encouraged to bring them along. You will learn more about your machine and get a bonus free technical inspection from a chainsaw expert

Don't worry. A Plus Training Solutions still offers flexible (group or individual) training delivery at times and locations to meet your needs.

For client convenience and to maximise training relevance it is preferred, where possible, to train on site at the clients' premises.

We understand that not all our clients will have appropriate training facilities on site so where this is the case, we can arrange alternate, suitable training venues and/or assessment sites.
